Founded in 1909

… the NAACP is the most widely recognized civil rights organization. Prompted by a deadly riot in Springfield, IL, the NAACP was formed to secure the rights for all people protected by the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments.

The NAACP recognized that the U.S. Constitution promised an end to slavery and equal protection under the law. The organization formed with a mission to ensure political, educational and social equality and eliminate racial prejudice.

The NAACP Today

… is more than 2,200 branches and a half-million members and supporters around the world who are premiere advocates for civil rights in their communities. They are leading the efforts in grassroots campaigns for equality and voter mobilization.

The NAACP reinvigorated its commitment to the fight for freedom engaging young adults to continue that fight until equality is no longer a far-fetched hope.
